The second-highest ranking GOP senator issued a menacing warning to Democrats, saying if they continue to try and expand the Supreme Court beyond the current nine justices on the bench, they will be instigating a “nuclear war” in the Senate.
Sen. John Thune stated that the current scheme by the Democratic party to try and pack the court would just end up provoking a united Republican effort to use any and all disruptive measures at their disposal to stand in the way of the whole legislative process in the government, which includes, but is not limited to the denial of basic quorum to conduct business.
This dude means business.
Thune’s warnings were echoed by fellow Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
“If I have to stay in South Carolina to deny a quorum to do this crazy stuff, I will,” Graham said. “If a third-world emerging democracy did this, the State Department with all of us would be talking about a puppet government creating a puppet court.”
With a majority, however, Democrats could merely change the Senate quorum rules. Thune referenced that possibility in his remarks.
“I don’t put anything past them, including trying to blow up the rules,” Thune said. “If they had the votes, I think they would get rid of the legislative filibuster, so I don’t think there’s any length they won’t go to to try and enact this agenda. But what I’m saying is whatever the procedural tools are that are available to us, we will exercise them because that would be a declaration of nuclear war in the Senate.”
The Democratic Party is trying to ensure that nothing can stand in the way of the radical transformation of the United States they have been working to achieve for decades. Progressives want a socialist/communist state and they have been working very hard since Obama was in office to lay the groundwork for such a transformation.
After Trump interrupted their plans they became desperate. They’ve been pulling out all the stops ever since. They want to ensure they never lose an election and that none of their new legislation is picked apart in court.
It’s pretty scary when you think about it.
