Senate Democrats, who wound up short on having the votes necessary to put an end to the filibuster, have a different plan by which to implement their “bold” agenda, which happens to include policies for raising the minimum wage, due to a budgetary rule that allows certain pieces of legislation to pass with only 51 votes.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke to the media on Tuesday where he stated he’ll move fast to pass a budget resolution in the Senate which will provide a path for lawmakers to pass specific bills with 51 instead of 60 votes.
The tactic allows bills to pass the Senate if they affect federal revenue. While coronavirus spending falls under that category, a minimum wage increase would not necessarily conform to the rules governing reconciliation. But Democrats plan to find a way.
“I think there is a consensus,” Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent and socialist, told reporters. “If Republicans are not prepared to come on board, that’s fine. We’re not going to wait. We’re going forward soon and aggressively.”advertisement — content continues below
The scary part about Sanders’ plan is the fact that it not only provides a higher minimum wage, which is really bad, but also includes “much more.”
What kind of soul crushing socialistic nonsense could Sanders be stuffing into the bill? There’s no way to know as of right now, but you can guarantee it’s not going to be good for our country and the country’s future.
This just goes to show you they don’t have an interest in unification with folks across the aisle. All they want is victory. Because victory means their worldview and the policy that flow from it will become the way the world thinks.
